"Tsuku-Dani," which is a kind of traditional food preservation technique using soy sauce, has been in use since the Muromachi Era (1333-1573). The food is first stewed for a long period of time and then various ingredients are added to culture it's uniquely delicious flavor, such as soy sauce, cooking alcohol, Mirin sweet sake, and corn syrup. Also, check out Arima-Ni, Mi-Sansho, or Yama-Buki.
After PAINSTAKING research, we managed to develop these healing bath salts with the same ionized, gold colored water from Arima's natural hot springs, known as Kin-Sen. An odd feature of bathing in Kin-Sen water is, when leaving the bath your body does not feel chilly, but retains it's warmth due to the high amounts of sodium chloride and iron in the water. We have taken much care to develop these salts, ensuring that they, as well as keeping the natural appearance and scent of the hot springs, are safe enough for you to enjoy in your own private Arima Onsen bath at home.
Sun Dried Moroyaka Hoshi Ume (180g 1,050yen) An Ume a day keeps the doctor away. Please try these seedless delightful, unflavored, dried ume plums. Naturally, Each one has a different shape, size, color and flavor due to the ever changing weather conditions during the rigorous, three time, outdoor drying process.
The unique texture of these towels is especially popular with our female guests. Though we have many wonderful items, we strongly recommend these towels as one of our hottest sellers.
Legend has it that during Japan's Asuka Period (550-710 AD), the Japanese Emperor and Empress, who saw in these hot springs relaxing relief from their stress due to trouble conceiving an heir to the throne, were suddenly able to conceive (in Japanese "ari" – exist and "ma" - suddenly) after bathing in this area. After which they named their son Arima. This is supposedly how these brushes came about, with fun little doll heads that pop out to greet you when you tip them up to write, and beautiful silk thread work woven around the handle. There is a great selection of patters, ranging from arrow feathers to plaid.
